Prometheus by nobbe42 Prometheus by nobbe42
My little contribute to the (at least for my taste) most fascinating ship design since the good old Eagle Transporters from Space 1999.
In fact the Prometheus was the only reason why I watched the film :)

Thanks! Glad you like it - I'm working on a second version but unfortunately there is near to zero time for things like that at the moment :(

Well - the final rendering wasn't a big deal. Most of my time went into the scene setup, light setup, (virtual) camera setup and the compositing and PP. The most time consuming work definitely was the creation of this incredibly detailed Prometheus 3D model which has been done by Russell - have not asked him about time on this one. So I can only tell from my own 3D modelling experience. A good detailed game ready character or vehicle/robot/scene can easily swallow up 50 hours  - depending on the level of detail and whether you are able to reuse stuff or build all from scratch.
A detailed and rigged spacecraft model which is suitable for movies and close up renders can take thousands of man hours when built from scratch and is usually developed by a team.

Thanks!
And btw.: I've learned a lot from ready made 3D models by figuring out how they have been constructed (e.g. which tools have been used, how the UV mapping has been done, etc.). Sometimes it is easier taking things apart in the first place and make some close studies. It can help a great deal when creating your own models.
Cheers

Thanks! The scene had been in my mind for quite a while - but until now I did not have any good 3D models of the Prometheus. Well - seems that this has changed :)
